Saving the environment and teaching bright students were two of Phil's passions. The foundation has awarded
its first environmental grant to Tess Geers, who we know Phil would have been proud of. Her work on the
Gulf of Mexico after the Deepwater Horizon oil spillwhich focuses on fish preservationwill
hopefully be the beginning of significant scientific work on the Gulf.

Update October 19, 2012
Tess Geers provides an update about graduating from Stony Brook University, in addition to working with Dr. Behzad Mahmoudi
at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Institute. She also recently landed at job as a Conservation Associate/Wildlife Fisheries Specialist at the
New England Aquarium in Boston. Congratulations, Tess!
