Saving the environment and teaching bright students were two of Phil's passions. The foundation has awarded its first environmental grant to Tess Geers, who we know Phil would have been proud of. Her work on the Gulf of Mexico after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill—which focuses on fish preservation—will hopefully be the beginning of significant scientific work on the Gulf.
